The International programme

The SFHR works internationally to support human rights organisations. Within the programme we have two main focus areas: Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the right to redress – Human Rights in Conflict and Post-Conflict – also known as Transitional Justice.

The focus areas are permeated by SFHR’s belief that civil society has an important role to play in the development of human rights.

Civil society plays an important role in the promotion and protection of democracy and human rights. We provide financial and technical support to local NGOs in order to obtain concrete results in human rights work whilst contributing to the long-term strengthening of civil society.

Above all, we believe it is important that civil society organisations in these countries perceive that a better understanding of the regional and global human rights systems makes a difference in the development of rights in their individual countries.

The SFHR has consultative status with both the UN Human Rights Council and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, which facilitates this work. Read more.
